ATA Spec 2000 chapters for aviation e-business
Spec 2000 is the aviation industry's e-business standard for materiel management. Airlines, repair stations, manufacturers and distributors use it to provision, buy, repair, track and warrant aircraft parts. It is organized in numbered chapters, each covering one business process, in online messages, batch layouts and XML. This page lists the chapters.

Overview
What ATA SPEC2000 is
Spec 2000's chapters follow the life of a part: provisioning (deciding what spares to hold), procurement planning, ordering and materiel management, repair and overhaul, reliability data, warranty claims and, in the newer chapters, aircraft records such as the transfer parts list, the authorized release certificate, the electronic logbook and the electronic work package.
Most chapters define how messages are exchanged online, in batch files or in XML. Chapter 10 is the ASC X12 implementation guide, which carries Spec 2000 business processes over X12 transaction sets. Related ATA specifications, such as iSpec 2200 for maintenance information and Spec 2300 for technical content, sit alongside it.
ECOM's B2B gateway handles the Spec 2000 online messages, batch layouts and XML. The one explicit exclusion is Chapter 9, Automated Identification and Data Capture: the preloads for that chapter are not covered.

Structure
Three ways to exchange
Spec 2000 is exchanged as online messages, as batch layouts and as XML. ATA publishes XML schemas with some chapters, such as the electronic product and part regulatory documentation in Chapter 16.
The X12 implementation guide (Chapter 10) lets partners that already run X12 carry the same business processes in standard transaction sets, without a separate Spec 2000 interface.
Spec 2000 follows the part: decide which spares to hold, buy them, repair them, learn how they perform, claim warranty and keep the records.
Versions
Revisions
Each chapter is revised on its own schedule and sold or issued separately. The public ATA pages list chapter titles but not revision years or per-chapter message lists, so the revision a partner uses is confirmed from its own documents.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Chapter 5 | Marked discontinued by ATA |
| Chapters 1 to 8 | Provisioning, procurement planning, materiel management, repair |
| Chapters 9 and 10 | AIDC and the X12 implementation guide |
| Chapters 11 to 18 | Reliability, redistribution, metrics, warranty and aircraft records |

Good to know
What this page does and does not cover
- Chapter 9 (Automated Identification and Data Capture) preloads are explicitly excluded from the gateway's coverage.
- The chapter titles come from the ATA e-Business Program and Airlines for America pages. Those pages do not list the individual messages in each chapter or the revision year of each chapter, so neither is stated here.
- Spec 2000 chapters are issued by ATA to its e-Business Program members and as separate documents. ECOM confirms the chapters and revisions you use during scoping.
