ALDI EDI for suppliers

What ALDI US publishes for suppliers about EDI, advance ship notices and license plate number labels, how its 26 divisions are organized, and what to confirm during onboarding.

Overview

Understanding ALDI integration

Who this is for: Food and non-food manufacturers and growers supplying ALDI US distribution centers and stores, including private label suppliers.

ALDI US publishes its supplier requirements on its corporate supplier pages. On EDI, ALDI states a preference rather than a published specification: it prefers to exchange business documents such as purchase orders, advance ship notices and invoices by EDI. The firmer rule is on shipping. With limited exceptions, ALDI requires advance ship notices and license plate number (LPN) labels for all loads going to its divisions.

ALDI's supplier FAQ explains the label rule. Each pallet sent to an ALDI distribution center needs two LPN labels carrying a machine-readable GS1 SSCC, wherever an ASN is required. Products must also ship in display ready cases, which ALDI requires for private label and national brand food items and many non-food items.

ALDI runs 26 divisions across the US, each with its own distribution center and service area, so suppliers often ship to several. Most of ALDI's range is private label, and it prefers to work directly with manufacturers and growers. The public pages do not name EDI documents by number, versions or a provider. This guide records what ALDI publishes and lists what we could not confirm.

Requirements at a glance

What ALDI publishes for suppliers

ALDI US prefers to exchange purchase orders, ASNs and invoices by EDI and requires ASNs with GS1 SSCC license plate labels for nearly all loads. Its public pages do not name X12 documents, versions or a provider; those come with onboarding. We checked the pages on October 31, 2026.

Read from top to bottom. Solid arrows are documents ALDI names in its own public documentation; dashed arrows are common practice that this page could not confirm for ALDI, or acknowledgments. The order is typical, not a ALDI rule: programs such as vendor direct to consumer use their own documents and timing.

What each ALDI document needs

For each document: what it does for you as the supplier, what ALDI's own documents say about it (with the source and its date), and general EDI practice that helps, labelled as such. Your ALDI mapping guide for your version is the final word on fields and codes.

Advance Ship Notice

You send

ALDI requires an ASN for nearly every load to its divisions, matched to license plate labels on each pallet.

What ALDI states

General EDI practice

  • Generate the ASN and the pallet labels from the same scan, so every SSCC in the ASN is on a pallet.

Connectivity

How companies connect

  • EDI, as ALDI prefers

ALDI prefers to exchange purchase orders, ASNs and invoices by EDI; its public pages do not name a provider or connection method.

  • ALDI supplier pages

Supplier requirements, FAQs, division information and the new supplier application are public on ALDI's corporate site.

Challenges

Common integration challenges

  • ASN and LPN on almost every load

With limited exceptions, every load to an ALDI division needs an ASN, and every pallet needs two LPN labels with GS1 SSCCs.

  • Many divisions

ALDI runs 26 divisions, each with its own distribution center, so ship-to data and appointments vary by division.

  • Specifications come at onboarding

ALDI's public pages do not list document versions or formats, so maps can only be finished once ALDI provides its specifications.
